Mary Beth Alder is a Nurse Practitioner at Washington Health Institute. She is board certified by the ANCC (American Nurses Credentialing Center) and licensed by the District of Columbia Board of Nursing as an Advanced Practice Nurse Practitioner. She is a member of the Honor Society of Nursing, Sigma Theta Tau International, the second-largest nursing organization in the world.

Mary Beth received her Bachelor of Science in Nursing Degree (BSN) from the University of Maryland in Baltimore and both her Master’s Degree as an Adult Nurse Practitioner (MSN) and her Doctoral Degree from the Catholic University of America in Washington, DC. During her graduate studies at Catholic University, she received the Founder’s Day Award in recognition of her research. She has researched in various fields, including antibiotic treatments, sexually transmitted diseases, HIV treatment and HIV PrEP. She has published several medical articles in peer-reviewed journals, including the Medical Clinics of North America, the Journal of Infectious Diseases and The Nurse Practitioner: the American Journal of Primary Health Care. She has also presented several abstracts at international conferences, including the Second International AIDS Conference in Paris, France.

In clinical practice, Mary Beth has been providing compassionate, quality care as an Adult Nurse Practitioner in the DC/Virginia region for over 30 years. She cares deeply about her patients and believes in providing individualized care in collaboration with interdisciplinary teams – every patient is unique and has a unique set of needs. Her goal, every day, is to address the needs of each patient and evaluate them holistically, considering mental and physical health and devising a plan of medical care for wellness.

Mary Beth enjoys a good sense of humor in and out of the office. Outside of work, she enjoys spending time with her loved ones, friends and beloved dog, Sophie. You can often find her hiking the many trails of Rock Creek Park or relaxing with friends enjoying the diverse activities offered in Washington, DC.
